"Grey Edge was created as an audiovisual installation for our first exhibition in autumn 2021. We tried to wrap a sense of unease in sound and a video work, a tension that is never really resolved."
Grey Edge deals with the attempted suppression of negative emotions for supposed self-protection. Vulnerability and openly dealing with feelings are still often considered weaknesses in our society, therefore it seems better to show a neutral surface than a transparent look inside. The inner and outer world is in dissonance, entering into an unstable interaction until the shell tears and the psyche uncontrollably makes its way into the physical.
The audiovisual work is based on 3d scans of the heads of the two artists. In an audio-reactive context, the models are staged to a specially composed soundtrack. Abstract forms transform into a human face. Like a mask, it appears frozen, while it is slowly broken by increasingly strong forms. The tension between inner feelings and the projection to the outside increases until the facade no longer holds. The music evolves from spherical, experimental patterns to rhythmic, dark techno.
